Sport and Spine Rehab Recognized for Excellence in Caring For Back Pain Prestigious New NCQA Program First of its Kind
You probably know this...back pain is one of the most common ailments in America; about 11 percent of the population experiences pain severe enough to impair their usual daily activities each year, accounting for one-quarter of all workers’ compensation claims. 30 million Americans currently suffer from back pain, and treatment accounts for approximately $91 billion a year.

Sport and Spine Rehab is concerned about this issue, so we're working to achieve recognition from The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for providing superior care to patients suffering from back pain. We are the only one in the region to achieve “early adopter” status from NCQA, a nationally recognized authority on healthcare quality.

The Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP) identifies high-quality physicians and chiropractors who take a patient-centered approach to back pain using 16 evidence-based criteria. These criteria include: thorough patient assessment; recommendations for appropriate physical activity; avoiding unnecessary imaging; patient education and shared decision-making with the patient about surgery and alternatives to surgery; tracking and analyzing surgical outcomes; and surveying patients about their experience.

The Back Pain Recognition Program was developed with input from experts representing orthopedics, neurosurgery, primary care, chiropractic, public health, health plans and employers. In shaping its requirements, NCQA studied some of the best treatment programs in the U.S.

This says a lot about the quality of care we're giving to our patients. “The early adoption status means that we have agreed to implement the highest quality guidelines according to NCQA. Once our full set of data has been collected, we fully expect to achieve “Recognition Status” by NCQA for our outcomes,” says Dr. Jay, our CEO. “We are an integral part of the healthcare team, so it’s important that we’re considered to be amongst the leaders in neuromusculoskeletal care. This is another example of our company’s consistent ability to provide cutting-edge, quality care at a reasonable cost.”

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. You can learn more about them at: www.ncqa.org. If you have questions about this program, ask your doctor next time you're at one of our clinics!
